A Tyrolean mountain valley in the midst of the glacier region

The small mountain village of Fendels is picturesquely located on a high plateau at 1,356 m above sea level at the entrance to the Kaunertal.

Fendels can proudly state that it is a typical Tyrolean mountain valley that has maintained Tyrolean tradition and architecture for centuries. Its sunny and quiet location and the fantastic view over the Oberinn valley make Fendels the ideal starting point of many hiking and climbing tours.

In the middle of the village, you can find the base terminal of the chairlift that will quickly take you up into the hikers' paradise.

Interesting history

The small village of Fendels looks back on a varied and interesting history: It was first mentioned in 1288 as the village of ‘Venels’ and is part of the district of Landeck. The mountain terraces for agriculture on the slopes even go back to the Roman era.

In the 18th century, Fendels was known for its wood carvings. The artist Andreas Kölle and his sons created some works of art in their sculptors’ workshop in Fendels that can be visited even today.

For example, the small Gothic parish church ‘Zur Himmelfahrt Mariens’ (Assumption of Mary) in the village hosts the valuable crucifix the master carver made. In the parish church of Feichten, both the altar and the pulpit were made in Andreas Kölle's workshop.
