Tips for hiking along the Gletscherstrasse (glacier road)

Learn the Kaunertal Gletscherstrasse glacier road) in all its dimensions of 1.273 m and up to 2.750 m. Our glacier street opens up at different heights through a diverse network of easy walks, beautiful alpine paths and mountain tours that start right on the roadside, respectively.

Footpath through the crevasse

A natural phenomenon becomes accessible only about 300 m from the glacier restaurant. Free guided tours take place from Monday through Friday in July and August and until about mid-September at 11 am.

Hiking trail seeles lakes

Family hiking trail: Duration: 0,5 hours. This almost level footpath leads up to two mountain lakes, with clear water, tadpoles and water scooters – the ideal place for a picnic during a family outing.

Trail to the red rocks

Hiking tour to the glacier gate (sight to see) and the Gepatschferner tongue. Duration: 0,5 hours. An accompanying booklet for the nature trail is available at the tourist office in the Kaunertal.

Climbing crag “Fernergries”

Climbing crag set up by mountain guides including 27 routes of difficulty level 3 to 7.

Mountain hike Ölgrubenjoch to the Pitztal

The trail starts at the Gepatschhaus. This mountain tour over the Ölgrubenjoch takes you to the Rifflsee in Pitztal via the Kaunergrat Hut. This trail is recommended only to experienced hikers, or with a mountain guide. Duration: 8 hours.

Hapmes trail through Zirben

to the hunters’ hut “Hapmes Boden”. Starting point about 3 km on the East side of the reservoir, duration approx. 1,5 hours, possible continuation on the high route over Wurmetal to the Gepatschhaus (with restoration), duration approx. 6 hours.

Mountain hike Rauhekopf Hut

Duration: 3,5 hours. Only for experienced hikers with mountain gear! DAV hut run by the Frankfurt branch, with restaurant service.

Tour to the Nassereinalm

Starting point about 1,5 km. On the west side of the reservoir, duration 1-1,5 hours; possible continuation over the forward Kaiserbergtal to the Gepatschhaus, both huts with restaurant service.
