Accessible crevasse
Two crevasses and a glacier cave – each of the crevasses is about 40 m long, 3 m high and about 1,5 m wide. The visitors can admire and touch the glacier ice from close by. ‘It is something very special, even a bit mystical when you pass through the ice tunnel’, says Franz Wackernell (operations manager with the Kaunertaler Gletscherbahnen). The ice is at least 100 years old and over time has extended from the source in the Weisseeferner to the glacier tongue, where the crevasse is accessible.
You can reach the crevasse via a safe footpath all year long. The glacier tongue is illuminated, enabling you to admire the ice in all its beauty!
Free guided tours
Free guided tours to the accessible crevasse take place in July, August and September from Monday to Friday. Find out everything about the subject of glaciers from their creation to the ablating process.
Every Monday til Friday, meeting point from July, 2nd til mid of September at 11 am at the sun terrace of the Weisssee restaurant (2.750 m), Kaunertal glacier.
Duration of the guided tour about 40 minutes.
